JOS: Major-General Folusho Oyinlola, the General Officer Commanding (GOC) and Commander of Operation SAFE HAVEN, in an effort aimed at enhancing the operational effectiveness of the military personnel within the 3 Division, has embarked on operational tour of formations and units under his command.

The tour commenced on Tuesday and is aimed to assess current operational conditions of military formations, while fostering strong relations with military personnel in the area.

The tour kicked-off at the Nigerian Army Armoured Corps (NAAC) Headquarters in Bauchi, where Major-General Oyinlola engaged with Major-General O.C. Ajunwa, the Commander Armoured Corps (CAC), at Obienu Barracks.

Speaking during the tour, the GOC described his visit as a “homecoming,” reflecting on his earlier postings in the Headquarters and expressing gratitude for the support he had received in the past.

“It is essential that we implement the Corps directives across all armored units to ensure operational efficiency and combat readiness,” he said, and emphasized the need for a cohesive approach to address the evolving security landscape.

Maj-Gen Ajunwa in his address, while welcoming the GOC, congratulated him on his new appointment and underscoring his confidence in the GOC’s capability to tackle the diverse security challenges that confront the region.

“Plateau State presents a unique security environment,” he acknowledged. “We must adopt a combination of kinetic and non-kinetic strategies to foster lasting peace.” Maj-Gen Ajunwa’s remarks highlight the importance of adaptive military strategies tailored to local contexts.

As part of his tour, Maj-Gen Oyinlola visited the Nigerian Army Armour School (NAAS), where he had previously served as Commandant.

The current Commandant, Maj-Gen A.H. Ahmed, expressed profound respect for Oyinlola’s distinguished service record and contributions to the Army, showcasing the esteem in which the GOC is held among his peers.

Demonstrating an understanding of the critical role of traditional leadership in securing peace, the GOC proceeded to pay a courtesy visit to the Emir of Bauchi, Alhaji Rilwanu Sulaiman Adamu, at his palace.

He acknowledged the vital partnership between the military and traditional institutions. Maj-Gen Oyinlola solicited the Emir’s support and blessings in executing his mandate. “Our collaboration is pivotal in maintaining stability and promoting peace in the region,” he remarked.

The Emir, also reflecting on the long-standing relationship between the Bauchi Emirate Council and the Nigerian Army, commended the 33 Artillery Brigade’s ongoing efforts to ensure security in the state.

“I believe that your wealth of experience will be instrumental in combating crime effectively,” the Emir said, and prayers were offered for the GOC’s success in his role.

The tour culminated at the Headquarters of the 33 Artillery Brigade, where Brigadier-General U.G. Simon, the Brigade Commander, provided an operational briefing on the current state of affairs. “Your visit highlights the importance of support and morale,” Brig-Gen Simon expressed, thanking Maj-Gen Oyinlola for taking the time to connect with the brigade.

In response, Major General Oyinlola commended the brigade for its resilience and commitment to duty, addressing the challenges they face and pledging further support from the division and escalation of issues requiring higher-level intervention to Army Headquarters. “I urge our troops to remain dedicated and to intensify efforts in countering security threats,” he asserted, with confidence.

The operational tour concluded with a group photograph and presentation of souvenirs, marking the successful engagement between the GOC and his troops.

As the 3 Division continues to navigate complex security dynamics, Maj-Gen Oyinlola’s leadership and commitment to collaboration with both military personnel and traditional leaders signal a focused approach to enhancing security in the region.

The operational tour serves not only to reinforce the military’s commitment to duty and operational readiness but also underscores the critical importance of building effective partnerships within the community.

With the GOC’s proactive engagement and strategic vision, 3 Division is poised to confront the challenges of today and ensure a safer future for all.
