A bill has been passed and gazetted by the House of Representatives, recommending the relocation of the Federal College of Education to Kanam by a Member representing Pankshin, Kanke Kanam (PKK), Rt. Hon. Yusuf Adamu Gagdi.
Hon. Yusuf Gagdi is advocating for a naval military secondary school to be established in Kanke, in an effort towards uplifting the standard of education, saying, his people are his strength, his dictate and his ‘AK-47.’
“They are my political backbone. When I say this, I am referring to the love and support the common man has for me. That’s what matters most to me,” he noted.
Hon Gagdi was speaking in Kanam, while handing over three brand new classrooms to his Almamata model Secondary School Dengi, on Saturday, and and 1,000 economic trees planting.
The Chairman House Committee on Navy Repr and President Dengi Old Students Association (DOSA) acknowledged that the gesture came to fruition through Gagdi’s support foundation.
The Emir of Kanam, Alhaji Babangida Muhammad, commissioned the project during the 2024 DOSA National Convention, held at Dengi, Kanam local government council headquarters, a development which heralded with planting of over 1,000 economic trees.
According to him, the association under his watch is working assiduously to ensure the establishment of a standard information communication technology (ICT) center, which will also serve as a JAMB registration and examination center in Kanam Local Government.
He promised that, he has numerous plans for education, adding, “For instance, bringing a Federal University to my constituency shows my commitment to educational development. I don’t think there is anyone else in Plateau, whether in APC or PDP, who has an educational plan as comprehensive as mine.
“I established a Federal University through an Act of the National Assembly. If implemented according to federal government policy, it would be a game changer, even if it is not situated within my constituency,” he stated.
“I have demonstrated capacity and representation by pushing for this university to ensure equitable distribution of educational facilities across the three local governments,” he noted.
According to him, “If I can achieve this within the span of my representation, I believe I can be considered someone with a concrete vision for educational development in PKK,” he stressed.
Our correspondent reports that, the Lawmaker was received by the constituents in his hometown (Gagdi ward), ahead of the 9th October local government elections in Plateau.
He expressed optimism that APC remains a household name in PKK, taking into account a massive human and infrastructural development done in the constituency.
According to him, he has explained why they should support his endeavors, adding, “I have given them reasons to support the APC for the unprecedented development we have achieved.
“This includes the hospitals across PKK, the road constructions that are ongoing, the schools we have built, and the empowerment programs we have conducted. We have paid the WAEC and NECO fees for students. These are some of the numerous projects that we have commissioned,” Hon Gagdi stated.
