The Vice Chancellor, Plateau State University, Bokkos Prof. Shedrack Gaya Best, has announced that a total number of 2478 bachelor’s degrees students were billed for award; this includes first-time Postgraduate Certificates as well for the award.
He also announced the achievement of 22 First-class graduates, with 11 in each of the two years, adding that, the activities will include Bachelor’s degrees, Postgraduate, Diploma and Masters Degrees.
Speaking during the 8th and 9th combined Convocation Lecture at the Plateau State University Bokkos on Friday, the VC also announced the awarding of two quintessential Nigerians, who will receive doctorate degrees honoris causa at the Convocation.
According to him, currently the students’ population is 16,000, with plans to commerce 16 new academic programs in 2026/2027 school year.
“The new academic programs include Health Science (physiotherapy) Optometry, Dietetics, and Radiography, Education (Five new programs) Environmental Science (quantity Survey) and Communication and Media Studies (Five new programs).
Prof. Best disclosed that, the Faculty of Computing is introduced running degree programs in Computer Science, Information Technology, Cyber Security, Data Science and AI and robotics.
He explained that, “The new faculty building is nearing compilation, and the faculty is expected to move in soon,” while congratulating the University for its Steady Growth and coming of age.
He emphasized that the University growth and the challenges it faces, which include infrastructural demands, will be overcome.
He disclosed further that, the Plateau State University now has students from 34 States of the federation. Out of the 36 States in Nigeria, only Sokoto and Zamfara States not represented.
“The University is deliberately in attracting students from outside Plateau State to create a diverse and inclusive environment,” he stated.
