YOBE STATE – At least one thousand orphans across the 17 local government areas of Yobe State have received a cash of N50,000 each from the Cash Support Launch by Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe State.
Speaking during the launching of the presentation of the cash to the orphans, the governor said, “All praises be to Allah the Most High for giving us yet another opportunity to be here at this ceremony to launch the presentation of cash support to One Thousand orphans across the seventeen Local Government Areas of the State.”
“As you are aware, this is an annual support programme initiated by this administration to support and give the orphans in our midst a sense of belonging, especially during festivities.
“Allah (Subhanahu wa Ta’ala) in His mercy, in chapter 107 verses 1 to 3 of the Holy Qur’an encouraged us to support and provide succor to orphans and the needy. He stated, and I quote: ‘Have you seen him who denies the Day of Judgement? It is he who pushes the orphan away; and does not induce others to feed the needy.’”
He commended individuals and organizations, who have during this period of the holy month of Ramadan been providing food to the needy and other vulnerable persons, thereby complementing government efforts, saying, “This spirit of giving should be encouraged to go beyond the month of Ramadan.”
He noted that, “The importance of such kind gesture is that it promotes mutual respect and love, and in the same vein, eliminates hatred and envy. Above all, it earns Allah’s pleasure and attracting covert and overt blessings to our individual and collective endeavours – with huge successes.
“It is important to note that this administration is very sensitive to the welfare of orphans in the state for them to live a normal and dignified life. Many orphans are today beneficiaries of government programmes with a special care given to them to pursue education at all levels.
“A very good percentage of orphans have been enrolled and sponsored by the State Government to pursue education from primary schools up to tertiary level within and outside the country. Furthermore, many of them were enlisted in the Tsangaya Education System in the State, and I am happy to note that they are making impressive performances,” Governor Buni stated.
He also commended the clerics for reminding the people on the need and the benefits of supporting the orphans, and urged them to continue with such beautiful lessons both during and after the Ramadan fasting period.
The governor further appealed to the good people of Yobe State to take the opportunity of this holy month to continue to pray for peace and prosperity of the State and the Nation at large.
“With these few remarks, it is now my singular pleasure and privilege to flag-off the distribution of N50,000 each as cash support to 1,000 orphans from the seventeen Local Government Areas of the State,” he said.
